This body of work consists of repeat-patterns and utilizes the semi-abstraction and segmentation of male bodies to examine the culture of the #selfie in online gay communities.

Images are appropriated primarily from mobile hookup apps that serve as a digital cruising ground, such as Grindr, and are manipulated using Instagram's editing software. Both Instagram and these apps facilitate spaces where gay men perform acts of self-objectification.

These patterns evoke to the mythos of Narcissus' homoerotic obsession with his own male form. They refer to anonymous sexual encounters between men, while also poking fun at performative fitness culture, the fragile nature of masculinity, and the anxiety induced by comparative body-image.

When the patterns reach a point beyond source-image recognition they become disarmed, desexualized to the non-queer viewer. Much like queer representation in past and present, media culture--A beautiful and fun object seemingly unable to challenge moral societal standards.
