History in Rust: Bowl and Disk
Metal Disk, Acrylic Paint, India Ink, Wooden Bowl
From the beginning of mankind, we have survived and evolved through the ever changing use and building of tools. This desire for advancement is both a blessing and a curse; the transformation of natural materials could eventually lead to curing cancer or to our ultimate fiery extinction. Even early on, this dichotomy of man made tools such as iron lead to advancements in cooking and in equal turns, warfare. As a result of the fundamentals of human nature, our species gave birth to a terrible force of apocalyptic nature; the atomic bomb. This bowl, captures this double edged blade that man kind wields; our ability to feed and nurture versus the ability for ultimate harm. The question this work proposes is what future lays ahead of us; a future where the weapons of warfare become rusted away because they were put away due to mutual peace or do they become rusted because there is no one left alive to use them.
